If you’re considering porcelain veneers, you need to understand that they’re simple to place in your mouth and can last for a decade or more. In fact, it’s hard to think of any kind of cosmetic dental procedure that’s simpler than veneers expect perhaps teeth whitening.

Your porcelain veneer experience starts with a dental consultation. The dentist will help you decide if you’re a good candidate for these thin ceramic sheets that are applied on the front surfaces of visible teeth. The dentist will also show you digital images that help you understand how veneers will look on your teeth so you can decide exactly how you want them to look. There are choices in styling and coloration.

In all cases, you fully participate in the planning process.

porcelain veneersThe actual dental veneers process starts with a digital impression that is sent to the master crafter who makes the individual veneers especially for you. In many cases, your teeth will be prepared with etching to remove the front slick surface during this same initial visit. Temporary veneers are put in place to protect the etching and allow you to go on with normal life while you await custom veneers.

When the permanent pieces are ready for you, you simply return to the dentist for a second appointment. The permanent veneers are affixed quickly and painlessly, then you leave this appointment with finished porcelain veneers that will last for years when you take good care of them.

If the process of getting veneers sounds really simple and easy, that’s because it is. There’s no better way to quickly enhance your appearance if you’re a good candidate than to get practical, fast and beautiful veneers so you can have the smile you’ve always dreamed of. It’s an intelligent decision for which you’ll thank yourself again and again.

before and after bracesWhy not try traditional braces to straighten your teeth since they’ve worked so well for so many people for so many decades?

While it’s true that braces work just as well as they ever have at correcting spacing and alignment problems with teeth, technology and modern science have also brought about more modern alternatives, including Invisalign. And these modern alternatives to braces don’t have the same side effects and issues.

Braces Disadvantages

Among the many disadvantages of braces is pain. You can get pain and discomfort simply from wearing them plus discomfort from cuts, scratches and sores in your mouth that are related to braces.

In addition, teeth can decay around braces when not properly maintained, and you can have other unpleasantness like plaque buildup, discoloration of your teeth from the brackets and problems eating even the small array of foods that are allowed.

In fact, there are many foods you can’t eat when you have braces. This includes pizza with hard crust, chewy breads, popcorn, chips, pretzels, bagels, most candies and nuts. Of course, corn on the cob is off limits, and so are raw carrots and even apples.

Considering Veneers

Some people think they can avoid the disadvantages of braces by going for quick dental veneers. If the orthodontic problems are slight and oral health is okay overall, veneers instead of braces may work fine. But veneers just cover up alignment and spacing problems and do not fix these issues. That means that any problems still exist and can continue to worsen throughout a lifetime. Veneers also require permanent etching, which damages teeth in a way that cannot be reversed.

Veneers also need to be redone within five to 10 years, depending on how well you take care of them.

For most people today, Invisalign is the best way to avoid getting braces. But even this innovative way of straightening teeth isn’t for everyone, and your dentist can tell you if it’s right for you.

Botox Injection Training
Botox Injection Training

Botox injections are one of the most sought after non surgical cosmetic procedures today. Botox or Botulinun Toxin A is a popular compound used to smooth out wrinkles. It is injected mostly into facial muscles by a trained practitioner, with sustained results over several months. The use of Botox has become widespread due to its effectiveness, convenience and minimal risks associated with its use

The high demand for this procedure means every cosmetic practice will need to provide it as a prudent business venture, and to satisfy the needs of existing clients. It is important to look carefully into all facets of instruction, so as to pick the best course. These are the top factors you need to bear in mind:

This is critical when deciding which training course to attend. As a professional, you need to know the training you are receiving is of the highest standard, and comes with wide recognition. Accreditation will also ensure that the training is done by experienced and qualified teachers.

If you are a licensed medical practitioner, check with the medical board in your state to confirm which Botox training courses they already recognize. This is a critical / often overlooked factor when it comes time to meet your CPD requirements. Attend courses whose credits contribute to your CPD. There are legal requirements as far as accreditation is concerned, so do your homework to make sure your training is in sync with state regulations.

All around course content

Although you may only be interested in Botox training per se, many schools give a full package of other cosmetic procedures such as dermal fillers, chemical peels, microderm-abrasion, and laser techniques. Clients who come in for Botox injections will also request these services, so it makes business sense to have expertise in them as well.

Look out for schools that incorporate business knowledge and practices into their Botox training. These courses will help you manage your business effectively, and teach you client acquisition and retention skills. You should also have the option of picking the courses you want, since you may already be proficient invsome of these areas.

Practical experience in Botox training requires as much hands on experience as possible. This will bothe help you sharpen your skills as well as build your confidence. The best Botox training course should have a low instructor- student ratio and opportunities for plenty of practice on live patients with real Botox.

Many schools allow volunteers to receive the injections for free, which is great for acquiring a higher number of practice subjects. Other courses may give you the option of private classes for more convenience. This might offer you more practical and personalized teaching than in a large class, though at a higher cost. Factors such as location & cost of the school should also be taken into consideration. This will ensure you get cost effective training, which does not take you away from work unnecessarily. Another great way to judge a school is by speaking to its alumni. They will share their experiences and help you have a proper perspective of what to expect.

A great Botox training course will make you perform the best procedures to the satisfaction and safety of your clients.

Let’s be clear: the best toothpaste is home made tooth paste that you create yourself from safe, non-toxic ingredients. You simply can’t be sure what a manufacturer puts in its products, but when you make the best homemade toothpaste in the world right in your own home, you’ll know exactly what’s in it.

Homemade Toothpaste Ingredients
Recommended Homemade Toothpaste Ingredients

If you stubbornly insist that making your toothpaste is too much trouble or effort, some store-bought products are better than others. You want to make sure you use a fluoride-free toothpaste since fluoride is toxic and can cause reproductive issues. You also want to choose a toothpaste that doesn’t contain drying sodium lauryl sulfate, potentially harmful saccharin, carrageen, manganese gluconate or sorbitol either.

Very few products on the market are worthy of recommendation because almost all the natural brands contain at least one thing that holistic health experts don’t recommend. Using the wrong brand means you’re repeatedly exposing yourself and your precious family to unhealthy substances that can do untold harm.

If you must use a store-bought toothpaste instead of the best homemade toothpaste you can create yourself, be sure to stay with trusted brands and also read labels very carefully.

So what are the best brands? Formulas change all the time, so it isn’t possible make firm recommendations.

Still, you may find what you want by choosing something from Tom’s of Maine, now part of the Colgate family of companies. Other good brands include Desert Essence, Jasons, Dr. Ken’s, The Natural Dentist and Kiss My Face. New choices are coming on the market all the time, so look for fluoride-free, SLS-free products that have as short an ingredients list as possible.

The best thing to clean your teeth is the best homemade toothpaste you can make, but when you insist on an off-the-shelf solution, go with a natural brand with a reputation for integrity. And then check labels and ask questions to make sure you’re getting what you want and nothing else.

Dr. Vinograd has been working to perfect his San Diego based, gentle dental techniques with the goal of eliminating discomfort for all of his patients.  The following principles are key to his San Diego Gentle Methodology:
Biological dentist

  1. San Diego Gentle dentistry starts with diagnostics.  Using a handheld laser, Dr. Vinograd is able to determine whether a filling is actually necessary.  Unnecessary fillings equal unnecessary discomfort.  Laser diagnostics also allows detection of early stages of decay so they can be treated before they evolve into cavities.  Treating problems early is always easier than allowing them to progress.  This is especially important with the widespread use of fluoride.  Fluoride is effective at hardening the enamel, but decay can still occur in the dentin, the softer layer below the enamel.  X-rays cannot detect decay under the enamel until it has affected a significant portion of the tooth.  Lasers can detect this decay while it is still small.
  2. Dr. Vinograd uses state of the art technology to blast decay with compressed air.  In many cases, especially minor decay, microabrasion can completely replace drilling.  Micro abrasion is gentle, non-invasive and can often be used without anaesthetic.  No drilling means no heat or sound and less damage to surrounding healthy tissue.  Less damage to healthy tooth means less chance of cracking and less chance of the restoration failing.
  3. When a procedure does require anaesthetic, Dr. Vinograd uses two types of pain reliever to ensure the patient is comfortable.  First is a topical painkiller, followed by a pH neutral numbing agent.
  4. The pain from drilling typically comes from heat generated by the high speed of common dental drills.  Dr. Vinograd uses a drill that runs at about a tenth the speed of other dental drills, 15,000 to 30,000 rpms vs 150,000 to 200,000 rpms, meaning less heat and less pain.
  5. Perhaps the most important element of Dr. Vinograd’s San Diego gentle dental methods involves complete patient control.  If the patient feels the need to stop a procedure for any reason, they simply raise a hand and Dr. Vinograd will stop until the patient is ready to go on.  Loss of control can translate into higher sensitivity to pain, greater tension and more fear.  Simply putting control back into the hands of the patient can go a long way toward helping the patient to relax and experience less pain and fear.

With these five principles, there is no reason to experience pain or fear during dental procedures.  A quick internet search will reveal thousands of happy patients that have been able to overcome their fear of the dentist as a result of San Diego gentle dentistry.

Silver amalgam fillings, made up of 50% mercury, were brought over from France in the 1800s by the Crawcour brothers, but there is evidence that they had been used in China around the turn of the 16th century, during the Ming Dynasty.  By the middle of the century they were being used by dentists across the country.  Even then, mercury was recognized to be a toxic substance and the fillings were the subject of controversy in the dental community.  Shortly after the introduction of amalgam fillings, the Dental Society of American Surgeons was founded.  The Society banned the use of amalgam fillings by its members and declared their use to be malpractice until it was dissolved in 1859 and replaced by the American Dental Association.

mercury amalgam filling holistic composite filling

The controversy over mercury fillings didn’t really go away, but mercury became so commonplace that most people didn’t really give it much thought.  Even after 2007 when the US Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry declared mercury to be the third most hazardous substance known.  Makers of these products are aware of their toxicity and include disclaimers on the packaging warning that the product is neurotoxic and nephrotoxic.

One would wonder, then, why these fillings are so popular.  In short, they work.  Amalgam fillings are strong, are easy to work with, last for years and work well for most patients, physically speaking, anyway.  Just because they work well from a physical standpoint, however, doesn’t mean they work well from a biological standpoint.  They can also expand over time, causing the tooth to crack.  Many holistic dentists spend a considerable amount of time in their practices placing crowns on teeth that have been significantly cracked by mercury fillings.

Nearly unanimously, Biological Dentists are opposed to mercury fillings and have been for many years.  Holistic dentists have been using tooth colored alternatives that work as well as or better than mercury.

Some people believe that mercury fillings are safe, others say they aren’t.  It may have made sense at one time to use them when they were one of the strongest, most durable materials available to fill cavities.  The question of the safety of mercury fillings still has not been definitively settled, so it may well prove to be safe.  But when the US government declares mercury to be among the most toxic materials known and when there are alternatives that are just as effective and without the controversy, there really is no reason to keep using them.

One of the greatest challenges of learning anything new is that there is never the opportunity to really ask questions, especially if you are watching something online, or sitting right at the back of an auditorium. The teacher or lecturer asks for questions, you stick up your hand, and then somehow everything moves on and you never get your answer. That is the opposite to how Dr Howard Katz works which is why his live Botox training courses have proved to be so popular – and there’s one coming to you very soon.

The next location of his Live Event training will be in Houston, a large area that will draw hundreds, if not thousands of people, but there aren’t that many tickets available because Dr Howard Katz believes in the art of the small group. His teaching will be centred over those select few who have bought tickets, giving him the chance to work one on one with individuals, take questions, and let the room guide the training just as much as he does.

This is a truly interactive event, with the chance to work on live patients then and there. This means that you can not only put into practice what you have learned almost immediately, but also ask for help, guidance, and support from Dr Howard Katz as soon as you put a needle to a patient. This is astoundingly useful, and really cements the learning in the mind so that when you go home and work on your patients, you can feel confident that you are doing the right thing.

Houston residents will have the chance to take this course on May 6th, which is a Saturday, so make sure that you book your ticket before they all sell out!

Sore wisdom toothMost likely you don’t not recall what teething when you were a baby feels like, but when you experience wisdom teeth coming in, you will know first hand what a baby goes through.  Wisdom teeth can create more than just tender gums and sore teeth, they can actually cause problems with your dental health.

When you begin to start to understand the reason behind the sore gums and aching teeth, you can successfully find a pain relief that will reduce the pains in your mouth.   Wisdom teeth generally come in between the ages of 17 and 21, although this is not a steadfast rule.  Often called your third molars, the four teeth push through your gums just like any other tooth.  This can create pain, and because these teeth sometimes grow at an incorrect angle, or even sideways, the pain can increase significantly.  This is called an impaction and can cause pain to radiate to other parts of your mouth. The American dental association says wisdom teeth may cause an abundance of issues such as infections and cysts.  It’s important to make an appointment with your dentist as soon as your wisdom teeth begin to come in.

More often than not, your dentist may recommend removal of your wisdom teeth.  Until you do have them removed, you will probably be searching for some type of relief.  Rinsing your mouth with a solution of one cup of warm water, with one teaspoon of salt can be beneficial.  Mix the salt into the warm water and stir until dissolved. Swish in your mouth for about 1 minute, then spit into a sink.  This process can be repeated throughout the day as needed.

Wisdom teeth pain can really disrupt your day.  You may search for ways to numb the area and dull the pain.  Using a product that contains benzocaine  can prove to be beneficial.  Spreading a gel-based product such as Colgate orabase on the gum where the tooth is protruding can help ease some of the discomfort. Use a clean, dry cloth to apply to the areas, you may reapply throughout the day as needed.

Should you prefer to use an old wives tale remedy, you may opt for cloves, or oil of cloves.  You may already have this in your spice rack so it may be the first attempt in stopping the discomfort.  To use this method, use a whole clove, do not crush or cut it.  Put it in your mouth directly over the spot that hurts.  Keep the clove in your mouth until you start to feel the numbing sensation.  You may opt to use the oil instead, simply dab some on a cotton ball and rub it over sore gums.  Another solution is over the counter pain medications.  Ibuprofen can help to alleviate the throbbing sensation, so you can get the pain under control.  It is important to read the instructions on the bottle, following dosage guidelines.  Check with your doctor or dentist with any questions. 1

All of these pain relief measures are a temporary solution.  Always see your dentist to discuss the best form of treatment.

Sliding Glass DoorSliding doors can be used in many places throughout your home due to the fact they take up very little space. They are great as interior doors for partitions or helping to hide that last load of laundry. They are also very functional as exterior doors allowing for an open feeling from one space to the next. Here are just a few options when it comes to adding sliding doors to your design.

Sliding barn doors: Barn doors are very popular right now and it is easy to see why. Not only do these doors bring a touch of rustic design to your home but they also can serve a very functional purpose. With an easy mounting system, you can add a sliding barn door almost anywhere in your home that the space is available. This is a great way to separate a guest bedroom that is rarely used or a formal dining area that needs some privacy from time to time. Also, not all barn doors have to be rustic and unfinished. Another great idea is to paint the door white and accentuate with matte black hardware. This is much cleaner look while achieving the same goal.

Sliding glass doors: The true goal of an outdoor oasis is to bring the outdoors inside your home. And what better way to achieve this than by sliding glass doors. The full panel glass will not obstruct any view you have from within your house while also bringing in tons of natural light. Using sliding glass doors will make your view and exterior space the focal point and truly bring both areas together as one. Depending on the amount of space you have, you can choose a wider door or a multi panel sliding door to have a very large opening between your indoor and outdoor space.

Sliding closet doors: Using bi-hinge doors as closet doors is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Using a tradition hinge door is a much better look but is not very practical. Replacing those doors with sliding doors will update your home while also increasing the amount of space in the bedrooms in your home. Add a floor length mirror to your existing, or new sliding closet door and you have a multifunctional door your guests will love.

Sliding office doors: When it comes to an office, I prefer for the door to be more of an option. Installing double sliding pocket doors as compared to double French doors that hinge open allow you to create a welcoming feeling in your office space. For more personal times, close the pocket doors. If you want to make these doors more of a statement piece rather than simply two solid doors, opt for a door with a glass design throughout. Choose a style that matches your home to create a flow throughout your house.

What is root canal?

Root canal is both a location and a procedure. The root canal is the hollow inside of a tooth that is filled with something known as “pulp”. Dental pulp is comprised of a number of things, namely, connective tissue, nerves and blood vessels. The procedure, root canal, is when the pulp of the tooth is removed and replaced with non-biological material. This is performed when there is extensive inflammation or infection or the tooth has a large cavity.

First, the tooth pulp is drilled out and removed. The tooth is then cleaned and thoroughly disinfected. The pulp is then replaced with a rubber like material and the tooth is sealed. The sealing can be done with either a filling or a fitted crown. After the procedure, the tooth obviously remains intact from outward appearances, but it is dead, as there is no nerve left.

Is a root canal safe?

As with any procedure, there can be complications after a root canal. Some dentists will argue that leaving a dead tooth in the mouth can have adverse effects on a patient’s overall health. Holistic dentists do not subscribe to root canal as a viable option for patients with severely infected or damaged teeth.

A holistic dentist often feels that a tooth extraction (read about tooth extraction San Diego services) is best, rather than leave the offending tooth it in place. If the tooth is infected, and there is an underlying abscess, the implications of leaving the tooth in the mouth may not be the healthiest solution. You want to be sure that all the infection is removed and cannot spread to other parts of the body. Large doses of antibiotics are also not in line with the holistic way of practicing medicine. Removing the decayed tooth is the only way to be sure there will be no lasting bacterial issues. Ask yourself this question, “Is saving one tooth worth jeopardizing the whole body?”

Are there other options besides extraction?

Typically, if the tooth is so far gone that root canal is offered, it is probably too far along to save. However, biological dentists feel that, too often, root canal is suggested because the doctor has no other avenues available and cannot find the true problem. An exhaustive diagnostic work up should be completed before making the decision to go forward with root canal or, preferably, extraction.

So, yes, there are options, but only if the tooth and underlying tissues are not invasively affected. In the case where they are, then extraction is the best option.

Before making any decision, whether it is root canal or extraction, be sure to have a discussion with your dentist, and do not be afraid to seek a second opinion if you have any lingering doubts. You must feel completely at ease with any decision you make that has a lasting impact on your health.

Loyal Knights Clash of ClansGoWiPe is a popular Clash of Clan attack strategy, but how can you use it most effectively?  GoWiPe is available once you have reached Town Hall 8 and calls for Golems, Wizards, and P.E.K.K.A.s.  It can be expensive, so is best reserved for Clan Wars, when you stand to profit from its use by winning the war.

Golems have the best health, while Wizards do the most damage of any second ranges troop, and P.E.K.K.A.s are deadly in melees.  Think of Golems as your tankers, absorbing damage while P.E.K.K.A.s and Wizards destroy everything in sight.

Note: You can use giants in place of golems, but the attack will be less effective.

After using the GoWiPe strategy for a while, this troop composition seems to work well, but experiment to see what works best for you.. or if you are looking for something more advanced, check out our GoWipe variations here.

  • Troops – 15 Wizards, 10 Wall Breakers, 5 Archers (each level 5+), and 3 P.E.K.K.A.s
  • Clan Castle – 6 Wizards and a Barbarian for 25 spaces.  Add a one of each, plus a Minion for 30 spaces.
  • Spells – You can go a couple of different ways here, consider a couple of Rage spells and a couple of Healing spells.  You can even add a Jump spell, if you like.

Before You Attack

Avoid using this strategy with a Town Hall 10 that has strong Inferno Towers if at all possible.  Inferno Towers will wipe out your Golems and your Wizards.

Avoid Teslas, they’ll take out your P.E.K.K.A.s easily.

Choosing a Side to Attack

Look for a side with Heroes and Mortar.  Heroes can block your luring progress, while Mortars will block and wipe your Wizards.

You might also choose to attack the side with the highest damage per second buildings.

When attacking a fully symmetrical base, try the side with the Town Hall.

Deploying the Attack

First: Deploy Golems spaced fairly evenly to absorb damage.

Next: Deploy Wizards immediately after Golems to clear outside buildings.

Use a Rage Spell, followed by Wall Breakers.

Your troops can then lure the Barbarian King into range for your Wizards.

After all the outside and first layer building have been neutralized, use your P.E.K.K.A.s, then deploy Heroes and Clan Castle troops.

Another Rage Spell after neutralizing the second layer will let your Queen and Wizards make short work of the Town Hall.

Don’t forget your healing spell and your Archers.

In most cases, you can get an easy 3 start with this strategy.  Your GoWiPe strategy may not work perfectly the first time, but keep experimenting until you get it.
